Jennifer Martinez - General Manager

Happiness is truly a state of mind. My father always told me that life was too short. He was right. What I have added to that saying, though, is: You can always rest when you’re dead.

I was born and raised in a small town in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. My bedroom window, to me, was a picture frame. The art it contained was my life. This picture frame would become a metaphor for how I lived. It was full of so many things, yet it was all made up of a few simple elements. The mountains symbolized my family and the river my faith. The rain and snow that fell; just some of life’s occurrences. And then there were the fish of the river. They symbolized the joy and happiness that could be found amongst these few simple elements in life.

I am older now, maybe not so much wiser, and that picture of the mountains is no longer my bedroom window. Nonetheless, that art has become part of my soul and reminds me of the few things I am sure of. I am sure that no matter how bad it gets we will not just survive it, we will persevere. I am sure that my family is as strong and true today as those Rocky Mountains of my youth.

Finally, I am lucky that my work involves art. I believe art makes us alive and provides expression for the words we cannot find. Art is something that can be faked, but never should be. Art is our window.
